The Leadership Awards have been created by INNOCOS events to recognize and honour managers and leaders in the beauty industry, who have significantly contributed to the success of their company by developing, enhancing and expanding the practice of innovation. The Awards draw applicants from a wide range of companies within the cosmetics and personal care industry: beauty brands and retailers, packaging, raw material suppliers and other organizations involved in contributing to the value chain of bringing cosmetics to consumers.

Award Categories


The Leader/Manager category celebrates the innovation, strategic thinking and visionary leadership of executive and C-level leaders from the beauty industry.

Who is eligible?

This category is not limited to CEOs and high profile executives. We encourage nominations from senior managers, executives and leaders of businesses from the beauty industry. Someone who has made management and leadership their profession, and who has had an extraordinary impact on their organisation’s success through leadership and forward-thinking strategies may be nominated.

Nominees must demonstrate:

Managing complex tasks, people, processes within the macro-environment to achieve results

Recognition by their organisation, board, staff or other stakeholders as showing excellence in leadership and management

Effective communication of their organisation’s goals and vision to all stakeholders

Commitment to mentoring or other leadership activities

Performance to budget

Please note, nominees aged between 18 and 35 years should consider applying for the Emerging Leader category.

Nominations are invited from successful young entrepreneurs and business leaders, who either is 35 years or younger (at the time of the nomination day) or has practised in the field of beauty industry five years or less


Business owners and entrepreneurs are recognised through the Owner / Entrepreneur category. They are savvy, hardworking individuals with incredible determination, who have channelled their learnings, turning points and visionary moments into viable beauty businesses.

Who is eligible?

Nominations are invited from owners, co-owners, sole proprietors, managing directors or managing partners, and the nominee must be actively managing the business. This category is open to individual nominations only.

Nominees must demonstrate:

Management excellence and ongoing best practice in their own business

Growth strategies for the continuation, sustainability and/or prosperity of their business

Effective communication of their organisation’s goals and vision to all stakeholders

Leadership and/or mentoring capabilities

Financial or results-focused success


The Emerging Leader category acknowledges rising stars and aspiring leaders from businesses who are making a mark in their industry.

Who is eligible?

Nominations are invited from successful young entrepreneurs and business leaders, who either is 35 years or younger (at the time of the nomination day) or has practised in the field of beauty industry five years or less.

Nominees must demonstrate:

Strong leadership and management potential

Exceptional skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholders

A significant impact on their company or business

Recognition of their personal brand, network and impact of these on their career

A commitment to personal development and a clear vision of goals they have set for themselves

Eligibility & Requirements

This award will be presented to an outstanding innovation leader who has contributed to a culture of innovation, demonstrated a unique approach with a strong potential impact and stimulated team members to innovate. Nominees must currently be holding a leadership position and leading a team within the organization. They have either innovated a service/process, developed a product innovation or brought it to market. Nominations are open for leaders in the cosmetics and personal care value chain, from raw material suppliers to retailers.

Applicants must present accomplishments related to the nominee’s current position.

All candidates will be judged based on the following 3 criteria:

-Innovation: Is the candidate’s contribution new to the world, new to the industry or a renovation?

-Impact: How does the innovation result in fundamental changes to the industry, consumer and organization?

-Strategy and Tools: How has the innovation contributed to meeting the strategy of the organization, business unit or department and what tools, method or approach did the nominee use to drive innovation?

All award content, including the identity of applicants, will be held in strict confidentiality and be used only by award judges in the judging process.

Steering Committee/Judges

An international panel of experts from complementary industries with a specialization in Leadership, Strategy & Innovation, who have experience working with/in the cosmetics and/or personal care industry, will review the applications and select the top finalists and winners in each category. Judges will be announced shortly.

Judging Process

The judging process will be conducted in two phases:

Phase 1: Finalist Selection-December 25th – March 15th. A team of judges will read each application and rank the nominees based on detailed evaluation criteria. The judges will then meet (online/offline) to discuss ranking and select a set of five finalists from each category for the next phase. Phase 2: Finalist Interviews – March 15th – April 15th. A team of judges will interview the finalists and then meet (online/offline) to pick the winner.
Finalists will be notified in advance so that they can prepare for the interviews. The finalists and judges will be invited to attend the Awards ceremony on June 4-th in Marrakech at INNOCOS summit 2020.


The finalists will be officially be announced at the end of January. A press release will accompany both announcements. The winners will be formally recognized during the INNOCOS summit.

The Leader of the Year Awards organisers and judges reserve the right to withdraw the award from a nominee who does not attend – or is not represented by a member of the team at the awards ceremony.
